Productive chain of natural products from Maranhão
Overview
This extension project aims to develop a portfolio of the main natural products from the flora of Maranhão in partnership with the Hempense, a startup from Maranhão focused on the market of cannabis use. The aim is to identify, geo-reference and classify the status of the production chains development of natural products from the flora of Maranhão in order to improve their production chains for export to international markets.
Our Effort
To achieve this goal, we are conducting an ethnobotanical survey, mainly within traditional communities of Maranhão, of the main productive chains of natural products, evaluating the phytotherapeutic and economic potentialities and the status of productive development of each natural input. In partnership with the startup Hempense we are identifying which natural inputs can be incorporated into the composition of the line of cosmetic and medicinal products under development of the startup.
Results
This project is still in progress. At the end, we intend to present a complete portfolio of natural products from the flora of Maranhão. The portfolio will include detailed information about each product, including its origin, geo-referencing, phytotherapeutic properties and potential incorporation into other products of the pharmaceutical, cosmetic and food industries. We hope that this work can help promote the valorisation of natural products from Maranhão and contribute to the development of the local economy.
